Charles Sheeler

(American, 1883-1965)
Two Against the White, 1957

tempera on board, 14 7/8 x 18 inches

Charles Sheeler was an influential photographer and painter from Pennsylvania, whose crisp, hard-edged imagery is emblematic of the American Precisionist manner. He often depicted modern architecture and the industrial landscape in his elegant paintings and drawings, using his own photography as reference. Two Against The White is one of two paintings by Sheeler in the Hallmark Art Collection, both of which were award winning entries in the International Hallmark Art Awards of 1955 and 1957.
